Artist's Comments

Yay, my first oil painting ever. I'm still waiting it to dry up, which will take some weeks, but I couldn't resist photoizing this right away. The paint was still wet, so this looks a bit worse than the actual work. I'll scan it when it's dry.

Oil paints are a real bitch to learn at first.
:iconhempuli:
Yeah, they are. And they take FOREVER to dry up. a bit under 24 hours and the painting is still totally wet. And getting the whole thing totally dry takes weeks! Bleh.

The drying doesn't bother me, because I don't do it at home but at a art plaaaaaaace thingy. But yeah, it's old-school.
And the instant mixing on the canvas tripped me up when I first started working with them.

Cleaning the brushes afterwards was a real pain the first times. Luckily my dad has some turpentine around.

You can never get the original brush color back, though.
Best thing after Turpentine is simple soap and water.

I tried them at first; didn't work. Olive oil works a lot better.
